Anthony Edwards Reveals How He’s Learning To Deal With Double-Teams

Because he’s such a fierce competitor and strong offensive talent, all teams make plans to limit Anthony Edwards as much as they can.

That means he is often pursued by a double-team defensive scheme from opponents.

Edwards is still scoring a lot despite two men on him at all times, and he recently talked to Dane Moore about how that’s possible.

Edwards said overcoming double-teams is about “little reads” that allow him to know his options on the floor but he also said he’s been studying one player in particular.

He revealed that he’s been soaking up a lot of footage of Luka Doncic of the Los Angeles Lakers, via Legion Hoops.

Even though they play at a different tempo, Edwards said he has a lot to learn from Doncic about getting past double-teams.

Edwards and Doncic are definitely different kinds of players but they face similar challenges.

They are massive offensive threats who can light up the scoreboard from just about anywhere on the court.

And they also get a lot of attention from opponents, who will stop at nothing to slow down their scoring.

Doncic has a knack for getting past intense defense, even when two or three players are on top of him.

Watching videos of him has probably helped Edwards get better at maneuvering through opposition on the floor.

Edwards has a 44.1 field goal percentage this year and his three-point shooting has ticked up.

Last year, he was sinking 35.7 percent of his threes and now he is landing 40.6 percent of them.

He is producing an average of 27.2 points for the Minnesota Timberwolves this year, the highest of his career.

That means that even with double-teams and suffocating defense, Edwards is still incredibly productive for his team.
