Ateneo blanks UP, claims first win in UAAP women's volley
MANILA, Philippines — The Ateneo Blue Eagles blanked the UP Fighting Maroons, 25-18, 25-22, 25-18, at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday to claim their first win in the UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball tournament.
Sobe Buena pumped 17 points including the cross court clincher to lead the Blue Eagles, who snapped a two-game skid and ended the Maroons' two-game winning start to the season.
Lyann De Guzman also came through and banged 14 points for Ateneo which recovered from a 10-16 hole in the second frame before dominating UP in the third, leading by as many as nine points, 18-9.
Irah Jaboneta notched 11 points and 10 receptions for UP, which ploy to not field its usual starters at the onset ultimately backfired.
