Athletes put on good showing going into final day of Corporate Area championships

KINGSTON, Jamaica – St George's College's Tyreece Foreman and Wolmer's Abigail Wolfe claimed impressive victories in the boys' and girls' Class One 100m events, respectively, at the Corporate Area Championships on Thursday at the Richard Ashenheim Stadium at Jamaica College (JC).

Foreman, who has been enjoying an excellent season, blazed to a new personal best time of 10.44 seconds to take gold, finishing ahead of Excelsior’s Malike Nugent (10.56) and Kingston College’s (KC) Nyrone Wade (10.60).

In the girls' Class One final, Wolfe clocked 11.76 seconds to claim the gold medal, finishing ahead of Alpha’s Tashay Faulkner (12.07) and Excelsior’s Shakira Rhoden (12.18).

Defending champions KC and Excelsior lead the boys' and girls' standings, respectively, heading into Saturday's final day of competition.

KC leads the boys with 133 points ahead of Calabar 105 and JC 100. They are followed by Excelsior (29), St George's College (24), Wolmer's (23) and Campion (12).

Excelsior leads the girls' section with 142 points ahead of Wolmer's 121.5 and Alpha 116. They are followed by Immaculate (107), St Andrew (51.5), The Queen's School (48.5) and Merl Grove (39).

KC’s Brian Kiprop captured the boys' Class One 2000m steeplechase in a new personal best time of 5:59.95. He finished ahead of JC’s Even Tetteh (6:10.90), who also clocked a personal best, while Calabar’s Shakeem Ebanks (6:36.33) finished third.

In the girls' 2000m steeplechase, The Queen’s School’s Ashana Bonnick won comfortably in 8:34.66, ahead of her teammate Tanika James (9:13.25), while Immaculate’s Hayleigh Brown (9:48.96) took third.

Calabar’s Odane Davidson secured the boys' Class One 1500m title in a personal best 4:07.69, finishing ahead of his teammate Justin Webb (4:08.40) and KC’s Stephen Muturi (4:08.66).

In the girls' Class One 1500m, The Queen’s School’s Hannah Charles recorded a respectable 4:52.05 to take gold. Wolmer’s Jeneail Henry (5:00.27) secured second place, while Excelsior’s Angel Stephenson (5:28.14) finished third.

Excelsior’s Niccaya Anderson won the girls' Class Three 1500m in a personal best 5:13.05, finishing ahead of Campion’s Savannah Burnett (5:23.54) and Alpha’s Danoya Scott (5:23.59).

KC’s Shamir Kelly soared to 7.45m to win the boys' Class One long jump, ahead of Calabar’s Romaine Lewis (7.38m) and JC’s J’Aivar Cato (7.23m).

In the girls' Class One long jump, Excelsior’s Kimeka Smith established a new meet record of 5.74m to claim gold. She finished ahead of her teammate Shelley-Ann Taylor (5.49m) and Immaculate’s Joi-Anne Russell (5.19m).

Immaculate’s Jaeda Robinson won the girls' Class Two long jump with a 5.73m effort, ahead of Alpha’s Rajana Price (5.36m) and Wolmer’s Natrilia Campbell (5.30m).

In the girls' Class Three discus, Excelsior’s Zoeyann Plummer set a new personal best of 37.00m to take gold, ahead of Alpha’s Tashanti Fearon (35.02m) and Excelsior’s Enola Myers (29.58m).

Immaculate’s Shanique Watt set a new meet record of 1.60m to win the girls' Class Four high jump, comfortably ahead of Wolmer’s Shaniel Whyte (1.50m) and Alpha’s Shiah Moore (1.40m).
