The Boston Celtics may be the defending NBA champions, but they have their work cut out if they want to repeat.

The Celtics are still in a strong position to defend their title as they sit second in the Eastern Conference behind the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Boston still has the ideal roster to go on another deep postseason run, but the level of competition has gotten better, which could impede its repeat aspirations.

Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown remain the faces of the Celtics, but there’s also an argument to be made that the former is next in line to headline the entire league.

Tatum has become one of the most consistent two-way superstars in the NBA but continues to see his name dragged in the media and among fans.

Gilbert Arenas recently said that the hate Tatum gets is more proof that he’s become the face of the league.

“When you talk about him negative compared to his actual resume. This is not the ’80s and the ’90s where we made our superstar look good. For the last 20-something years, it’s been a negative thing on the face of the NBA. Whoever got bashed the most, didn’t even think about it. He is the face because we pretend his resume is not his resume, so we want to tear him down,” Arenas said, via Legion Hoops.

There’s been a lot of talk recently about how being the face of the NBA comes with more negativity, so Arenas might have a point.

Stars like Nikola Jokic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander might have a stronger case, but Tatum is certainly in the mix for the unofficial honor.
