Holidays Still a Priority for Irish Consumers, with One-in-Five Planning to Spend More on Trips this Year

Research shows holidays remain a priority for many in Ireland, despite the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.
A survey conducted by specialist travel insurance provider, Multitrip.com, shows that one in five people (21%) are planning to spend more on their holidays this year compared to 2024.
The figures also show:
- More than a quarter (28%) of people are planning three trips in 2025 – the same proportion as took three trips last year
- Over a third (38%) of people will spend the same amount on their holidays as they did last year
- More than a third (38%) of people say the cost-of-living crisis hasn’t affected their travel plans
- The top destinations of choice are mainland Spain (16%), the Canary Islands (13%) and Italy (8%)
- September is the most popular month to travel (32%), followed by June (27%) and May (26%)
- Getting through airports and flying are holidaymakers’ top concerns when they head away (20%), followed by getting sick (19%)
Jason Whelan from Multitrip.com says the survey shows despite the rising cost of living, people see their holidays as a priority:
“We hear a lot about the importance of work-life balance these days and it’s clear from our research that people truly realise the value of taking a hard-earned break, maybe a couple of times a year.
“People will be looking forward to these trips for months on end and it’s really important they run smoothly, which is why we always encourage people to purchase a travel insurance policy. The peace of mind it provides is invaluable. For example, given that nearly one in five people list getting sick as a top concern when on holiday, Multitrip.com now offers 24/7 GP services, online or over the phone.
“Cancellation and disruption are also a big worry for customers. We always urge people to make the purchase ASAB – as soon as you book and add on your Travel Disruption. You can relax then, knowing you’ve taken steps to protect your plans.”
