Letran snaps Benilde's 43-game win streak via sweep

MANILA, Philippines — Colegio de San Juan de Letran pulled what seemed to be impossible.
The Lady Knights stunned the three-time defending champions College of Saint Benilde, 25-22, 25-23, 26-24, to break the 43-game winning streak of the lady in green in the NCAA Season 100 women's volleyball tournament at the Lyceum of the Philippines University Gym in Muralla, Intramuros.
This historic win of Letran halted the long winning spree of Benilde that started since 2020 as its last loss was way back in January 29, Season 94 semifinals.
Letran managed to pull away from the first two frames to gain a 2-0 set advantage, nearing to score an upset against the defending champions.
With Benilde coming off strong in the third frame to potentially keep its streak alive, the errors that the team committed handed them the heartbreak.
The Lady Blazers held a 23-22 card in the third canto and Judiel Nitura soared for an attack to send her squad to a set point advantage.
However, Benilde pulled a 2-0 run, and Jessa Dorog's attack sailed outside that changed the narrative, allowing Letran to have the upper hand, 25-24.
Gia Maquilang showed bravery and flew higher for the game-winning kill, 26-24.
Nizelle Martin scored 19 points, while Sheena Sarie and Nitura added 15, and 12 points, each.
The Lady Blazers only had one double-digit scorer as Wielyn Estoque made 13.
