Manchester, Herbert Morrison to clash in ISSA rural basketball finals

Manchester High and Herbert Morrison Technical are to meet in the first games in both sections of the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association rural area best-of-three finals at Manchester High this afternoon.
Three games are set to be played on the day. The Under-19 third-place game between Holland High and Belair High is to start at 12:30 pm, preceding the first game of the Under-16 finals, set to start at 2:00 pm. The Under-19 game is booked to start at 3:30 pm.
Manchester High had beaten Belair High 2-0 in both of their best-of-three semi-finals, while Herbert Morrison had got by Holland High by the same 2-0 scoreline in the Under-19s. But it took Herbert Morrison all three games to get by Cornwall College 2-1 in the Under-16 semi-final that was decided on Monday.
Herbert Morrison prevailed 47-42 in the deciding Game Three, just holding off Cornwall College who outscored them 18-4 in the final quarter. Cornwall had trailed by 24-43 at the end of the third quarter.
Herbert Morrison, who were led 12-8 after the first quarter and were up 27-18 at half-time, were guided by Michael Johnson’s 11 points, 13 rebounds, five steals, and three assists. Antonio Kerr scored eight points and Kyle Palmer scored six points and had 10 rebounds.
Carlyle Tingling had a game-high 14 points to lead Cornwall College. He also had 11 steals and five rebounds, while Chad-Michael Stephenson scored nine points and had seven rebounds. Conway Campbell scored six points.
