Messi’s Inter Miami to face Jamaica’s Cavalier FC

KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Lionel Messi-led Inter-Miami FC are headed to Jamaica to play Cavalier FC in the round of 16 in the Concacaf Champions Cup after beating fellow Major League Soccer (MLS) team Sporting Kansas City 4-1 on aggregate in their first-round tie that ended on Tuesday.
Inter-Miami won 3-1 at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday after they had won the first leg 1-0 played in Kansas City a week earlier.
Cavalier FC will play their first leg in Florida on March 6th before returning home to host the MLS team at National Stadium on March 13.
During Tuesday’s match against Sporting Kansas City, Messi scored the opening goal in the 19th minute, Tadeo Allende scored in the first minute of time added in the first half and former Uruguayan international Luis Suarez added a third two minutes later.
Memo Rodriquez scored for Sporting KC in the 63rd minute.
Cavalier FC were given a bye to the round of 16 after winning the Concacaf Caribbean Cup in December beating Cibao FC of the Dominican Republic and was the fifth-ranked team of the five teams that drew a bye.
It will be the second straight season the Jamaican Premier League champions will be playing in the prestigious Champions Cup.
