Midterm Snow Holidaymakers Warned to Check Coverage of Travel Insurance

A survey from Multitrip.com has prompted a renewed warning for consumers to read insurance policies carefully before they set off for midterm snow breaks.
The research, conducted by Opinium on behalf of Multitrip.com shows almost a third (29%) of people mistakenly think basic travel insurance provides cover for common activities such as tobogganing and sledging.
Mountain resorts around Europe will be a popular destination for several weeks yet as ski season continues and the team at Multitrip.com says it’s important not only to have a travel insurance policy but particularly to make sure it covers anything that could be on offer at your destination.
Jason Whelan from Multitrip.com says travellers often have the impression that special cover is only necessary for things like skiing and snowboarding: “People may not know they need to upgrade their policy if they are taking on specific sports or activities, but it’s really important to check your cover before you travel.”
“At Multitrip.com, we offer the opportunity to extend your coverage to include winter sports or we include it free of charge with our Premier Plus cover. If you are not sure what your policy covers, or if you wish to extend the scope of your coverage, please check our website or give the team a call as we would be delighted to assist. After all, holidays are all about relaxation and enjoyment – we aim to simply provide the peace of mind that comes with knowing that you are covered.”
The survey also shows that two in five (41%) parents with school-age children wrongly believe that travel insurance isn’t needed in Europe for medical problems if you have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). In fact, an EHIC will only cover emergency medical treatment.
“While it is recommended to have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for trips to Europe, this will only provide limited medical cover and it will not replace travel insurance. Travel insurance extends coverage beyond public medical costs including costs or repatriation or air ambulance. It also extends to cover additional benefits like cancellation, baggage, and travel disruptions.”
In 2024, 36% of Multitrip.com customers added winter sports to single trip policies relating to a departure date in February. The company offers Annual Travel Insurance from €19.95* and Annual Travel Insurance with Winter Sports cover from €26.99** Premier Plus policies include winter sports with no extra charge.
