Oneka Wilson wins historic third ACC 60mh title

Oneka Wilson of Clemson University created history at the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Indoor Championships in Louisville, Kentucky, on Monday when she became the first athlete to win the women’s 60m hurdles for a third-straight year.

The former Hydel High ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships gold medallist ran 8.09 seconds to defend her title as the Clemson women’s rolled to another ACC championship.

Wilson, who is the NCAA leader with a personal best 7.95 seconds ran in mid-February, led the preliminaries when she ran 8.17 seconds on Sunday.

Wilson’s teammate Shantae Foreman and Florida State University’s Shenese Walker were also winners at the three-day championships.

Foreman retained her triple jump title when she jumped 13.55m a day after she didn’t qualify for the final of the long jump.

Walker retained her women’s 60m title, running 7.21 seconds, just off her personal best 7.19 seconds, and was second in the women’s 200m where she ran a personal best 23.26 seconds.

Shanque Williams, of Clemson was third in the women’s 400m, running a personal best 52.75 seconds.

At the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships, former Rusea’s High athlete Aliesha Shaw of Kent State University won her first shot put title, throwing 15.61m.

Shaw was runner-up in the last two years and 10th in the first season in 2022.

Daniella Anglin of South Dakota University was third in the women’s high jump at the Summit League Indoor Championships, clearing 1.72m, the first time she has finished outside the top two positions.

Anglin won her first two seasons and was second last year and also won her first two outdoor championships as well.

Former Holmwood Technical athlete Shakera Williams of Northwestern State was third in the women’s shot put with 14.09m at the Southland Conference Indoor Championships.

Donroy Brown of Southeastern Louisiana was also third in the men’s shot put with 16.90m and his teammate Josh-Ty Brown was seventh with 16.10m.
