PH Paralympians win 5 gold medals in India

The Philippine delegation bagged 15 medals at the 2025 New Delhi World Para Athletics Grand Prix in India.

The games were held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium from March 11 to 13, featuring para-athletes from 20 countries.

In a statement by the Philippine Paralympic Committee (PPC) on Thursday night, the national team won 5 golds, 6 silvers, and 4 bronze medals from the games.

Leading the team were Cendy Asusano and Jerrold Mangliwan, who won all five of the country's gold medals.

Asusano, who took part in the Paris Paralympics last year, bagged three gold medals in the women's shot put F54; women's javelin throw F53, F54, F56; and the women's discus throw F54.

Mangliwan, also a Paralympics, won the gold in the men's 400 meters T52, T53, T54 and the men's 800 meters T52, T53, T54. He also won a silver medal in the men's 1,500 meters T52, T53, T54.

Marites Burce, meanwhile, captured the silver medal, behind Asusano, in the women's discus throw F54.

The other Filipino medalists are Maekel Lita, who won the bronze in the men's discus throw F56, F57; Jolan Camacho, who won a silver medal in the men's long jump T12; Cyril Ongcoy, who won silver in the men's 1,500 meters T11, T12; King James Reyes, who won bronze in the men's 1,500 meters T46; and Arvie Areglado, who won a silver in the men's T47.

"Your success not only brings pride to our nation but also inspires others. Thank you for showcasing the true essence of sportsmanship and representing the Philippines with such honor," the PPC said in a statement.
