Ryanair Increases Frequency on Dublin to Sofia Route

Ryanair has announced increased flight frequency on its Dublin to Sofia route.
The move – from 4 flights per week to 6 flights per week – forms part of Ryanair’s newly-announced summer 2025 schedule at the Bulgarian capital.
The airline will have four planes based at Sofia over the summer and will operate more than 350 weekly flights from the Bulgarian capital, across 43 routes; which will make it the largest carrier operating in the city.
Two of those routes will be brand new – linking Bulgaria to Frankfurt-Hahn and Pisa.
In all, Ryanair’s biggest ever schedule at Sofia will be supported by a $400m investment and will deliver 2.9 million passengers to and from the city, each year, and support more than 2,500 jobs.
However, Ryanair is also urging the Bulgarian government to follow a growing number of its European counterparts in lowering airport charges for airlines, saying its future growth in the country depends on it.
Ryanair’s Chief Commercial Officer, Jason McGuinness said: “Sofia and Bulgaria’s tourism growth potential is being held back by excessive access costs at Bulgarian airports. Low access costs are the catalyst for growing connectivity and tourism as demonstrated in countries such as Italy, Hungary, Slovakia, and Sweden where government and airport decisions to reduce access costs have directly resulted in a significant uplift in capacity and tourism this summer.“
“Ryanair calls on the Bulgarian Government to urgently intervene to make Bulgarian airports more competitive and unlock the country’s untapped tourism growth potential. Subject to competitive access costs, Ryanair is ready to respond with its transformative long-term growth plan for Bulgaria which will potentially double traffic to 6 million passengers per annum, 10 based aircraft, a second base in Bulgaria, and over 180 new highly-paid aviation jobs.”
