White outstanding on Carifta Trials second day

Tajh Marques White turned in a strong performance to hold off his Kingston College (KC) teammate Marcinho Rose to win the Boys’ Under-20 400m event on the second day of the three-day Carifta Trials at the G C Foster College on Saturday. White clocked 46.15 seconds to win the event, ahead of Rose, who finished second in 46.40s. Daniel Wright of Excelsior secured third place with a time of 46.50s.

Vere’s Shevaughn Thomas clocked 53.60s to win the girls’ Under-20 400m event, turning back the challenge of Holmwood’s pair of Abrina Wright (53.66s) and Annastacia Hall (54.33s).

St Jago’s Rushaine Richards won the boys’ Under-17 400m event in a close finish with a time of 48.21s, just edging out Calabar’s Diwanye Sharpe, who also clocked 48.21s. Chanton White of Denbigh placed third in 49.34s.

Titchfield’s Shavan Jarrett clocked 1:52.88 to lead all qualifiers into today’s final of the boys’ Under-20 800m event. Jarrett is expected to face strong competition from Calabar’s Dujhauntai Lewis, who holds the second-fastest time of 1:52.92 minutes.

The other main challengers in today’s final are St Mary’s High’s Raseed Grant (1:54.76), Edwin Allen’s Joel Morgan (1:55.06), Jamaica College’s (JC) Samuel Creary (1:55.15), and St Elizabeth Technical’s Joaqueen Miller (1:55.60).

Sydney Pagon’s Danae Hodges recorded a respectable time of 2:16.18 in her heat to qualify for today’s final of the girls’ Under-20 800m with the fastest time. Her time was more than a second faster than Alphansus Davis’ Tabbrel Williams, who has the second-fastest time of 2:17.42 going into the final.

Jovi Rose of Holmwood (2:18.11), Sabrina McDonald from Papine (2:18.77), and Cindy Rose of Holmwood (2:18.82) are the other main qualifiers for today’s final.

Carvel Nooks of JC recorded a time of 1:58.61 to lead all qualifiers for today’s final of the boys’ Under-17 800m event. The other main qualifiers are Luke Plummer of Sydney Pagon (1:59.57), Port Antonio’s Tyrece Whyte (1:59.89), Christopher Anderson of KC (2:00.23), and Keniel Daniels of Excelsior (2:00.26).

In the hurdles events, KC’s Eshanee Porter registered a time of 54.42s to top all qualifiers for today’s final of the boys’ Under-17 400m hurdles. Porter is expected to face strong competition from Excelsior’s Jaeden Campbell (54.48s), St Jago’s Roshuan Ramsay (54.70s), and Kemarley Fletcher of Calabar (54.82s), who are the other main qualifiers for the final.

Kelly Ann Carr of Edwin Allen raced to 57.87s to top all qualifiers for today’s final of the girls’ Under-20 400m hurdles event. Vere’s Shevaughn Thomas (59.47s) and Rhodes Hall’s Rhianna Lewis (59.78s) are the other main qualifiers for the final.

JC’s Princewell Martin was impressive in qualifying for the Boys’ Under-20 400m hurdles final after winning his heat in 52.21s. Calabar’s Robert Miller (52.79s), Theo Morgan from Edwin Allen (52.97s), and Tajoneil Gordon of KC (53.15s) are the other contenders for the gold medal.
